This was entered for the "WIN free Heavy Rebel Weekender passes" contest held annually on Myspace.com. We feel it is the most complimentary item we have read in years!
"well, how bout this. I should get free passes this year cause last year I took an 18 hour bus ride from boston to get there and when I arrived had no place to stay, and knew no one but the sickabillies. I showed up with the clothes on my back and a bag with a hoodie for sleeping in, and some pomade, a spare pair of jeans and socks, and figured I would just buy band shirts when I got there.
I was introduced to some pretty rad people when I got there but didn't wanna inconvinience any of them ( some had spare floor space but thier hotels were far away shit like that) So I spent the first two nights in the woods. no tent, no blanket. I'd get up every morning and go to the bus stop to wash up and get my hair right, then spend afternoons in the park till shit got going. If anyone needs a good place to crash let me know. I found a pretty good spot the second night, after getting chased out of one spot by a homeless dude, and woken up at the other spot by the water tower first thing in the morning by a 100+ pound rotwieler.
any way by day three I had gotten to know know squindo and his wife pretty well, a couple from jersey was nice enough to hold my bag in thier car during the days.
Then at the end of day three (days are including the pre-party) I met some dudes from S. carolina, or georgia? some southern place I gotta bad memory. Any way I met them and they let me stay at thier place and wouldn't even let me buy them breakfast. Doug, kip, and cody were thier names, cody drove a primered 54 chevy, and if you see these guys, buy them a drink, cause they're definately good dudes. I owe them big time. so for the next day or so, I had a place to sleep, a pool to use, good people to hang with. It was by far the best vacation/adventure I had ever been on and wish I could go again. By the last night Squindo was telling me about how if they had sold more paintings and had more room, I could take a ride home with them and how next year I need to meet up with them to ride down. Even months after the event they were still throwing me the invite online to ride down. The couple from jersey was saying the same thing. I believe the dude's name was matt, he was in the guitar contest, his girlfriend who's name I can't recall, was stunning and you probably all know them or should, cause they are great people, were saying things among the same line about how they should give me a ride. But I already had my bus ticket and I lived much further north than any of them so I was greyhound bound.
Unfortunately, I now live in CA (thats not the unfortunate part, I love san diego) but I can't take anyone up on thier rides down, I can't figure how I'd get from the airport to the show, I'm short on money, so it looks like this year may be a no go. Unless you would be kind enough to start some kind of fundraiser to get me out there I may be shit outta luck. Even if I don't win your giveaway, you should post this anyway so people no that you should go to this event no matter what cause its worth it. Sleeping in the dirt for a few nights, 36 hours on a bus, getting chased by hobo's, all worth it. And also post this so everyone knows how great the entire crowd is. Johnny from the sickabillies invited me to this couples wedding that I didn't even know, and everyone was so fucking nice I couldn't brelieve it. Keep in mind I'm from boston were everyone's an asshole, but if anyone is thinking about going, but hessitating, just fucking go, you won't regret it.

Over 70 acts, on three stage, Kustom car and bike show, contests, vendors and more! While going on our 9th year, we still want to bring it to you like its the first year! See you in July!
